Our Fraternity’s Motto

First of all, servants of all, we shall transcend all.

Sigma Chi Lambda is an alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. There are two ways men connect with us depending on where you're starting from.

  • If you are not yet a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and hold, or are close to earning, a baccalaureate degree, you may be eligible to join through our chapter.

    Eligibility requirements:

    • Minimally conferred a 4-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution (accredited online universities included)

    • Of good character

    • Registered to vote, if eligible and qualified

    • Sponsored by a member in good standing of Sigma Chi Lambda

There is no open online application. Membership begins with a conversation. If you're interested, contact us and we will connect you with a brother to discuss your interest and sponsorship.

If you are currently an undergraduate student, this alumni chapter path does not apply to you. Reach out to Alpha Phi Alpha's chapter on your own campus.

  • Already a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha and relocating to the Jersey City area? Whether you've been out of the House for one year or fifty, you are welcome home at Sigma Chi Lambda. Sigma Chi Lambda is a fast growing alumni chapter in New Jersey, and Reclaimed Brothers will see familiar faces and feel kindred spirits the second they walk through the door.

To transfer or affiliate with our chapter:

    • Confirm your good standing status through Alpha MX

    • Reach out to us directly so we can walk you through the chapter transfer or affiliation process

    • Visiting brothers are always welcome to attend our meetings and events before making it official

Contact Dean of Membership to start the process.

Anti-Hazing Mission

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. joins other fraternities, sororities, parents and academic institutions in the fight against hazing. No one person can eliminate hazing. It takes the commitment of everyone involved in the process of joining a group organization to make it happen. We encourage you to join us to make this world a better place through hazing prevention.
